KORAT, Thailand: Singapore's badminton player Kendrick Lee won a silver medal in the SEA Games men's singles final on Friday. He lost to Indonesia's reigning Olympic champion Taufik Hidayat 21-15, 21-9 in their final clash at the Vongchavalitkul University Indoor Stadium.
It has been 24 years since a Singapore's badminton player featured in the SEA Games men's singles final. Lee's nervousness showed from the start of the game and most points were lost due to unforced errors. The game ended with two sets to nil, in favour of Hidayat.
In men's doubles final, Singapore's Hendra Wijaya and Hendry Saputra lost to Indonesia's Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan 21-17, 21-12. Indonesia's Flandy Limpele and Vita Marissa took gold in the mixed doubles final (21-14, 21-15), leaving Thailand's Sudket Prapakamol and Saralee Thoungthongkam with silver. In women's doubles final, Indonesia's Vita Marissa and Liliyana Natsir won 21-15, 21-14 over teammates Jo Novita and Greysia Polii. Indonesia's Maria Kristin beat teammate Adriyanti Firdasari 21-16, 21-15 in women's singles final.
